The North East Learning Disability Network
The Advocacy Project ‘who cares’ was part of the response by The North East Learning Disability Network (hosted by NHS North East) to the Winterbourne View incidents, recognising that the incidents there might have been less likely to occur if the patients had been provided with good, appropriate, advocacy. The project aimed to establish the current state of advocacy provision for people with learning disabilities in the region and to identify and recommend best practice for achieving appropriate advocacy provision. This work has been shared across England and we are hoping to develop more work with Self Advocacy group and in patient units across the country.
You can access all of the resources from the project here.
